When combined with Amritsar, home to the iconic Golden Temple and the Wagah Border Ceremony, the journey becomes an unforgettable blend of devotion and cultural pride.

Destination Highlights
Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine – Katra
Nestled at an altitude of 5,200 feet, the Vaishno Devi shrine is accessible via a 13 km trek from Katra. The journey to the holy cave passes through breathtaking mountain landscapes, scenic viewpoints, and sacred stops like Ardhkuwari and Bhairon Temple. Devotees believe that visiting Mata Vaishno Devi fulfills wishes and brings peace of mind.
For those seeking convenience, pony rides, palanquins, and helicopter services are available (booking in advance is recommended via the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board official website).
Amritsar – Golden Temple & Heritage Sites
Amritsar, the spiritual capital of Punjab, is most famous for the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), a symbol of equality and peace. This sacred Sikh gurudwara is surrounded by the Amrit Sarovar, whose holy waters are believed to purify the soul. The complex also houses the Akal Takht, the highest seat of Sikh authority.
Beyond the Golden Temple, Amritsar’s heritage trail includes the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, which stands as a reminder of India’s struggle for independence, and the Partition Museum, which narrates the stories of 1947’s historic partition.
Wagah Border – Beating Retreat Ceremony
A short drive from Amritsar takes you to Wagah Border, the only road crossing between India and Pakistan. Here, every evening, the Beating Retreat Ceremony showcases the discipline, pride, and patriotism of the Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers. The synchronized drills, high-energy marches, and flag-lowering ceremony create an electrifying atmosphere for visitors.
Best Time to Visit
The Vaishno Devi with Amritsar Tour Package can be enjoyed throughout the year, but the best months are:
-
March to June – Pleasant weather for trekking and sightseeing.
-
September to October – Clear skies and comfortable climate.
-
December to January – Perfect for those who wish to experience a winter pilgrimage (carry warm clothing).
Avoid the heavy monsoon months (July–August) as rain may cause slippery trekking paths at Vaishno Devi.
